Hardness TestingHardness testing measures the resistance of a material to a permanent indention of particular geometry over a specified length of time. Hardness testing is an effective and efficient means to characterize a material and requires minimal sample preparation. Metallurgical offers Rockwell superficial, Knoop/Vickers micro hardness, and Brinell tests for metals. We also provide Durometer hardness testing for polymers.
Specimens may be complete parts or select sample areas cut from a larger part. We routinely test machined coupons, fasteners, wire, cable, tubes, pipes, plates, structural beams, or bars. Our machine shop and qualified machinists will machine your raw materials to standard coupons if necessary. Specifications for tests performed may be ASTM, MIL, or other standards. The experience of our engineers and a comprehensive quality control program ensure accurate, reproducible results. Our primary mechanical testing instrumentation includes the following:
MES is capable of testing large lot sizes for manufacturing controls and we offer discounted rates for high volume testing.
